Flesh for Frankenstein

Presented with an introductory talk by Manuel Hugenschmidt on analogue 3D technology + short film program of journey through the history of 3D

No fewer than two aspects of the section’s theme can be found in the 1970s version of Frankenstein, presented by Andy Warhol. Firstly, the stitching together and reanimation, the undead and perhaps even the indestructible – a core aesthetic and arguably one of the first associations that spring to mind when thinking of ‘expiring’ and expiry dates. However, it is even more exciting to screen this film in 3D! After all, back then it was, of course, not our digital technology, but one of many analogue processes for creating the third dimension, which have been lost over time.

We are therefore all the more delighted to present this film in collaboration with the 3D Festival in Mannheim and to provide a comprehensive introduction to the history and technology of 3D film before the screening.

Präsentiert mit Einführungs-Vortrag von Manuel Hugenschmidt zur analogen 3D Technik + einer kleinen Kurzfilm Zeitreise durch die 3D Geschichte

Gleich zwei Aspekte der Sektionsthematik finden sich in der Siebzigerjahre-Version von Frankenstein, präsentiert von Andy Warhol. Zum einen das Zusammennähen und Wiederbeleben, das Untote und vielleicht sogar Unkaputtbare – eine Kernästhetik und wohl eine der ersten Assoziationen, wenn man an „Expiring“ und an Ablaufdaten denkt. Noch spannender ist jedoch, diesen Film in 3D zu sehen! Denn damals handelte es sich natürlich nicht um unsere digitale Technik, sondern um eine von vielen analogen Verfahren für die dritte Dimension, die über die Zeit verloren gegangen sind.

Umso mehr freuen wir uns, diesen Film in Kooperation mit dem 3D Festival aus Mannheim zu präsentieren und vor der Vorführung umfassend in die Geschichte und Technik des 3D-Films einzuführen.
