What if horror but found footgae? Both found-footage horror and the more recent ‘analogue horror’ subgenre can sometimes produce the most terrifying films. Whilst The Blair Witch Project – and to some extent Paranormal Activity – sowed the seeds of doubt – ‘Are we really watching found footage here?’ or, to put it simply: ‘Is this real?’ – yet more recent films such as [REC] (2007, Jaume Balagueró & Paco Plaza) do away with this pretence and make full use of the ‘shaky camera’ genre.

This is also true of the film About A Place in The Kinki Region!, based on a graphic novel. A film that, after a long time, brings such terror back to cinemas … In doing so, it makes use of the serial nature of digital spaces and the clip-like structure of video cassettes, effectively telling a long series of short horror films, within which lies a worthy homage to the J-horror classics.

Was wenn Horor aber Found Footage? Sowohl Found-Footage-Horror als auch die neuere „Analog Horror“-Variante können mitunter die angsteinflößendsten Filme sein. Zwar wurde mit The Blair Witch Project und zuteilen auch Paranormal Activity noch die Saat des Zweifels gesät – „Sehen wir hier wirklich gefundenes Material?“ oder, simpel gesagt: „Ist das echt?“ –, so befreien sich neuere Filme wie [REC] (2007, Jaume Balagueró & Paco Plaza) von diesem Vorwand und nutzen das Genre der „Wackelkamera“ zur Gänze aus.

So auch der auf einem graphicnovel basierende Film Kinki! Ein Film, der nach langer Zeit wieder einen solchen Schrecken in die Kinos bringt … Dabei macht er sich die Serialität digitaler Räume und die Cliphaftigkeit von Videokassetten zunutze und erzählt quasi eine große Reihe an kleinen Horrorfilmen, in der eine würdige Verbeugung vor den J-Horror-Klassikern schlummert.
