Gloomy parking spaces, a football match – a power plant in the background. Nothing feels urban; the city and the countryside are almost indistinguishable. Stagnation takes the place of a coming-of-age. Toxic depicts the Lithuanian hinterland, from which everyone is trying to escape: the fear of social decline, body dysmorphia that doesn’t stop at the body but is capable of eating away at one’s entire sense of self. Saulė Bliuvaitės Film is a drama about class dysmorphia and body capital.

To expire means to be trapped in one’s own reality, to look through the grids of reality at fantasies, to turn around and find oneself once again facing a reality that is so bleak it becomes almost black and white. Sometimes we lose things in the past; sometimes we never had them in the first place. This is precisely what Toxic shows: in its interweaving of ‘model’, ‘body’ and ‘capital’, it merges three words into one: Toxic is a poisonous film.

To expire means, in seiner eigenen Realität gefangen zu sein, durch Lebensrealitäts-Gitter auf Wunschgebilde zu schauen, sich umzudrehen und wieder vor der so tristen, beinahe schwarz-weiß werdenden Realität zu stehen. Manchmal verlieren wir Dinge in der Vergangenheit, manchmal haben wir sie gar nicht erst. Genau das zeigt Toxic: In seiner Verwebung von Model, Körper, Kapital macht er aus drei Wörtern eins. Toxic ist ein giftiger Film.
