In the aftermath of Russia\u2019s 2022 invasion, Ukrainian cinema has largely turned toward war and politics. U Are the Universe, however, offers a rare and refreshing detour. Pavlo Ostrikov\u2019s sci-fi comedy imagines a post-apocalyptic future where Earth has exploded, leaving working-class nuclear waste trucker Andriy seemingly the last human alive, until a message arrives from Catherine, a French scientist aboard a distant space station.<\/span><\/p>

What unfolds is a tender, quietly absurd romance between two very different people, shaped as much by their loneliness as by their unexpected bond. Alongside them is Maxim, Andriy\u2019s AI assistant, who insists on logic and order in a world that no longer has either. But as the film gently suggests, humans are not machines, we aren\u2019t meant to make perfect decisions, only meaningful ones. With humor, warmth, and a disarming emotional core, U Are the Universe resists the gravity of despair. It transforms cosmic isolation into a space for joy, intimacy, and hope\u2014reminding us that love and laughter are sometimes the most radical acts in the face of destruction.<\/span><\/p>

Nach Russlands Invasion im Jahr 2022 hat sich das ukrainische Kino weitgehend Krieg und Politik zugewandt. U Are the Universe hingegen bietet eine seltene und erfrischende Abweichung davon. Pavlo Ostrikovs Sci-Fi-Kom\u00f6die entwirft eine postapokalyptische Zukunft, in der die Erde explodiert ist und der Arbeiter Andriy, ein Trucker f\u00fcr nuklearen Abfall, scheinbar der letzte lebende Mensch ist \u2013 bis eine Nachricht von Catherine, einer franz\u00f6sischen Wissenschaftlerin auf einer fernen Raumstation, eintrifft.<\/p><\/div>

Was folgt, ist eine zarte, still-absurde Romanze zwischen zwei sehr unterschiedlichen Menschen, gepr\u00e4gt ebenso von ihrer Einsamkeit wie von ihrer unerwarteten Verbindung. An ihrer Seite ist Maxim, Andriys KI-Assistent, der auf Logik und Ordnung besteht \u2013 in einer Welt, die l\u00e4ngst beides verloren hat. Doch wie der Film sanft andeutet: Menschen sind keine Maschinen. Wir sind nicht daf\u00fcr gemacht, perfekte Entscheidungen zu treffen \u2013 sondern bedeutungsvolle.<\/p><\/div>

Mit Humor, W\u00e4rme und einem entwaffnend emotionalen Kern widersetzt sich U Are the Universe der Schwerkraft der Verzweiflung.
